What Are Decentralized Applications (DApps)?
Decentralized applications (DApps) are digital programs or apps that run on blockchains instead of central servers. They offer a variety of services, such as finance and gaming, and are similar to regular mobile apps. DApps are open-source, decentralized, and use cryptographic security to protect data, which is stored on a public, decentralized blockchain maintained by multiple users. They may use cryptocurrency tokens or generate their own native token using a consensus algorithm, such as Proof of Work or Proof of Stake. The token can also be used to reward contributors. The Bitcoin blockchain is an example of a DApp.
Don't understand?
Here is a "explain it to me like I'm five" explanation.

A decentralized application, or DApp, is a special kind of program that runs on a computer network called a blockchain.
Blockchains are really good at keeping track of things and making sure that information is safe and secure.
DApps can do all sorts of things, like help people play games or use money online. They are kind of like regular apps on your phone, but they use something called "crypto tokens" instead of regular money. And instead of being controlled by just one company, they are run by lots of different computers all working together.
