NYU to Launch Web3 Learning Workshop
The New York University School of Professional Studies (NYU SPS) has partnered with the NEAR Foundation to launch a "Web3 Learning Workshop" for students and faculty, aimed at breaking down the educational barrier to entry in the crypto and Web3 space.
The workshop, which will be held by the Preston Robert Tisch Institute for Global Sport, will focus on the intersection between Web3 and blockchain technologies and the sports industry. The course will cover the basics of blockchain and digital assets and their applications in the sports world, and will be taught by Michael Kelly, co-founder of the NEAR ecosystem. Participants in the NYU SPS program will also have the opportunity to earn NFT rewards via a Dapp on the NEAR platform.

The Web3 Community Responds to Turkish–Syrian Earthquake Tragedy
A massive 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck southeastern Turkey near the Syrian border on Feb. 6, resulting in over 5,000 deaths. The major earthquake occurred along a 62-mile fault line and caused significant damage to the region's infrastructure, resulting in a cross-border humanitarian crisis.
However, the world has responded quickly to the disaster. People have been collecting funds for local and international aid organizations through various social media platforms. AFAD Turkiye, a government agency for disaster relief, and the NGO Ahbap, led by philanthropist Haluk Levent, are leading the aid efforts and accepting aid in digital currencies through open crypto addresses. Companies in the Web3 industry are also helping, with Bitget committing $53,000, Bitfinex, Keet, Synonym, and Tether pledging $265,500, Gate.io pledging $53,000, and local exchange Bitci sending an aid truck and donating its commission for February. Bank of England Launches Digital Pound CBDC Project
The Bank of England has officially launched its new digital pound Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) project, aiming to provide a new form of digital money for households and businesses for their everyday payment needs. The digital pound is intended to complement, not replace, cash and to ensure that central bank money remains relevant in a digital economy.
During the introductory phase, there may be a limit on the amount held by each citizen, potentially between £10,000 and £20,000 to balance risk and wide usability. The consultation paper notes the potential for private sector innovation and the benefits of diversifying payments in the UK, but cautions that the development will take place over several years and the need for digital payments will be determined based on how the payments landscape evolves in the UK and globally.
