Dungeons & Dragons Performs U-Turn on NFT Ban
Fans of Dungeons & Dragons and Fraggles will soon have the opportunity to purchase NFTs, according to recent announcements.
The owner of the tabletop RPG Dungeons & Dragons lifted a ban on NFTs following a fan revolt over attempts to tighten control and impose royalties on the open game license, which allowed fans and companies to create content using the game's core rules. The publisher, Wizards of the Coast, retreated from its stance by allowing the use of its content in Web3 and NFTs and releasing the next version of its content under an irreversible Creative Commons license.

China’s Central Bank Continues Digital Yuan Expansion To 17 More Provinces
The increasing popularity of digital assets has prompted many countries to support digital currencies. Today, China's central bank, the People's Bank of China (PBOC), announced the continued growth of its central bank digital currency (CBDC), the digital yuan. The digital currency's pilot program has been extended to 17 more provinces in China.
The PBOC aims to launch a "scan with one code" system for consumers. To improve the digital yuan's use cases, the central bank is introducing two new features: offline payments and smart contract capabilities. The offline payments feature, which went live on January 23, allows users to make payments without internet access via NFC technology.
The smart contract feature, launched earlier this month on the Meituan e-commerce app, gives users the chance to win a daily prize of $1,312 split among winners. [Source: Bitcoinist]

Blockchain-backed digital messaging applications are forecasted to skyrocket in value in the next few years, with a projected 43.6% compound annual growth rate. On Feb. 1, the new decentralized version of Twitter, called Damus, went live on Apple’s App Store. The app has prematurely been called a “Twitter killer” and describes itself as the “social network you control.“
Existing alternative messaging services have been stepping up their game in terms of decentralization. On Dec. 8, 2022, Telegram announced that it would allow no-sim accounts using anon-blockchain numbers. This came about a week after Telegram founder Pavel Durov said the app is working on a set of new decentralized tools to combat abuse of power. [Source: Cointelegraph]
