💲Americans 'Frustrated' by Financial System Inequality
According to a new survey commissioned by crypto exchange Coinbase and conducted by business intelligence firm Morning Consult, 80% of American adults believe that the global financial system unfairly favors those with "powerful interests." Furthermore, 67% of respondents have called for major changes or a complete overhaul of the financial system.
The survey also found that 20% of American adults currently own cryptocurrency, with the number remaining consistent over the past year. Of those surveyed, 36% of Gen Z and 30% of Millennials currently own crypto. Additionally, minority groups were found to hold a more favorable view of crypto and be more optimistic about its future.
According to the survey, Americans would be more interested in entering the market if exchanges were more trusted and secure, with 91% of current crypto investors highlighting the importance of a trusted, secure platform. [Source: Cointelegraph]
⚖️ Colombia’s Legal System Experiments in the Metaverse
A recent report by Reuters on February 24 stated that Colombia's Magdalena Administrative Court conducted its first legal trial in the metaverse on February 15, involving participants in a traffic dispute. The trial lasted two hours and was brought by a regional transport union against the police. It will continue "partly" in the metaverse, and the verdict may also be given there. The participants appeared as avatars in a virtual courtroom, and the magistrate, Maria Quinones Triana, wore black legal robes. According to Quinones, the experience felt more realistic than a video call, and Colombia is one of the first countries to test legal proceedings in the metaverse.
A survey by CoinWire released on January 16 found that 69% of respondents believe the metaverse will modify social lifestyles due to new approaches to entertainment and activities. In January, the World Economic Forum featured metaverse experiences with its own 3D immersive digital sessions, called the "Global Collaboration Village." Author Cathy Hackl of "Into the Metaverse: The Essential Guide to the Business Opportunities of the Web3 era" predicted that the "physical world side" of the metaverse will emerge in the next decade, deeply impacting how we socialize. Blockchain Founders Fund, a venture capital fund that supports the adoption of blockchain technology and Web3, has raised $75 million in a funding round featuring investors such as Ripple, Polygon, Octava, NEO Global Capital, Appworks, GSR, LD Capital, Metavest Capital, and others. The fund has already invested in over 100 startups, including Altered State Machine, Splinterlands, GRID, Krayon, and Magna.
According to Aly Madhavji, managing partner of Blockchain Founders Fund, the fund aims to invest in more than 200 companies within the next 12 months. The fund will focus on high-potential early-stage pre-seed and seed projects that promote the mass adoption of blockchain technology and Web3. To qualify for funding, startups must have a solid team, a clear business plan, and a demonstrated ability to execute their vision while offering products or services that meet real market needs and offer clear pathways for revenue generation or monetization over time.
Despite a pullback in venture capital spending in Q4 2022, investors are still keen to back blockchain-based technologies, applications, and startups, with a focus on non-volatile innovations such as cross-chain bridges, payments and remittances, lending, decentralized autonomous organizations, asset management, and digital identity management.
