Blockchain Education: The Network Effect
CoinTelegraph published an article about the concept of the network effect, its importance for the growth of technologies and platforms, and how it benefits cryptocurrencies.
Below are the key takeaways from the article:
1. Definition and importance of the network effect:
The network effect is a phenomenon that occurs when the value of a product or service increases as its user base grows.
It is a crucial driver of growth and adoption for technologies and platforms like social media, messaging apps, and cryptocurrencies.
2. The network effect as it relates to cryptocurrencies:
Cryptocurrencies heavily rely on the network effect, which increases liquidity, trading volume, acceptance, and utilization.
Bitcoin benefits greatly from the network effect, creating a self-reinforcing adoption cycle.
3. Limitations of the network effect for cryptocurrency investment:
The network effect is not a guarantee of long-term investment returns.
Other factors, such as technological developments, competition, news, and market sentiment, may also impact a cryptocurrency's value and adoption rate.
4. Importance of caution in cryptocurrency investment:
Approaching cryptocurrency investment cautiously and carefully considering all relevant factors is important. Be sure you're always conducting your own research.

🧪 Pharma Companies Team Up with DeSci to Accelerate Scientific Research
Decentralized science initiatives, known as DeSci, have gained momentum within the research community and are progressing rapidly. Even big pharmaceutical companies like Pfizer cannot ignore them. Pfizer has become the first pharmaceutical company to vote on proposals made by the German blockchain-based organization VitaDAO, which operates as a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO). This collaboration is part of VitaDAO's latest fundraising round, which raised $4.1 million from strategic members, including Pfizer Ventures, Shine Capital, and L1 Digital, among others. The funds will be used to finance longevity research projects and accelerate the spinout of VitaDAO's first biotech startups, with two more planned for 2023.
According to Alex Dobrin, the community and awareness steward at VitaDAO, Pfizer is bringing some of its own scientists to work with the community of researchers who are part of VitaDAO to incubate research. DeSci has created a thriving ecosystem with projects such as decentralized biotech foundations and funding vehicles. Tuan Cao, the founder of GenomicDAO, a San Francisco-based platform launched by the artificial intelligence biotech company Genetica, explained that major trends in the field include research and investment platforms, crowdfunding for scientific research, and scientists and researcher communities.
GenomicDAO aims to establish a community that drives and governs Asian-focused precision medicine initiatives. Its first subsidiary DAO is focused on stroke prevention, targeting awareness and research and development for ischemic strokes. Stroke is one of the most common causes of disability and vascular death worldwide. According to the American Heart Association, there were over 77 million ischemic strokes globally in 2019. Asian populations have higher stroke incidences than Western populations, according to a study published in the Journal of clinical hypertension in 2021.
GenomicDAO believes that combining a network of research groups, institutions, organizations, scientists, and medical experts with artificial intelligence can reduce the time to release a new product from 12-18 months to 4-6 months. The platform claims that community-driven initiatives are disrupting scientific research, particularly in the precision medicine space, where R&D is dominated by a few big names that monopolize the market. This, in turn, leads to stagnation in innovation and widens the gap in providing precision medicine to underrepresented populations. [Source: Cointelegraph]
⚙️ Whitehat Hackers Helped Oasis Network Get Back $140M In Stolen Crypto
Oasis Network recently announced on February 24th that they had partnered with white hat hackers to retrieve funds that were stolen from Solana's Wormhole bridge. The hack occurred on February 2nd, resulting in a loss of approximately $326 million in cryptocurrency. The hacker transferred some of the stolen funds and used the Wormhole bridge to connect Solana to other leading decentralized finance networks. The attacker had previously transferred $150 million worth of stolen assets in January and continued to distribute funds on Feb. 12.
Oasis discovered a weakness in the design of the admin multi-sig access in their multi-signature wallet software, which they believe the hacker exploited to place the stolen funds. They then collaborated with ethical hackers, known as "white hats," who suggested a method for recovering the stolen assets on February 16. After a February 21 ruling from the High Court of England and Wales, Oasis utilized this method to recover the stolen funds. Solana's high speed and low cost allow tokenized assets to be transferred between blockchains without disrupting ongoing projects, platforms, or communities. [Source: Bitcoinist]
