Blockchain Education
⚙️ Transactions Per Second
Transactions per second (TPS) in blockchains refers to the rate at which a network can process transactions in one second. The development of technologies to increase TPS has been a crucial area of research due to the new challenges posed by decentralized networks in terms of scaling for higher demand.
However, increasing TPS is not the only challenge in blockchain scalability. Centralized databases can handle thousands of transactions per second, such as VISA, which processes around 1,500-2,000 transactions per second. The main issue with using centralized solutions is that blockchains aim to compete with them while still maintaining a high level of decentralization.
Decentralization has a cost in terms of performance and security. Therefore, scalability solutions need to increase network performance while preserving all the other essential properties of blockchains. Otherwise, blockchains would not be more than an inefficient database.
It's crucial to note that high TPS in a blockchain does not necessarily make it superior to other blockchains with lower TPS. Many blockchain projects boast about their high TPS, but achieving high performance often comes at the expense of sacrificing other essential aspects of the network. For instance, Bitcoin has thousands of nodes running the Bitcoin software across the globe, making it decentralized. A blockchain with only 10-20 nodes might outperform Bitcoin, but it can hardly be called decentralized or distributed. [Source: Binance Academy]
👯 What is a Digital Twin?
A digital twin is a virtual copy of a physical object, system, or process used to simulate and analyze the behavior and performance of the real-world entity. It is commonly used in industries such as manufacturing and construction to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and optimize performance. With digital twins, engineers and designers can test and optimize the performance of a product before it is built, and monitor its real-time performance to identify problems and improve maintenance and repair. They are created using various technologies, including sensor data, 3D modeling, AI, and IoT, and can be integrated with VR to create immersive experiences.
While the concept of digital twin technology was first presented in David Gelernter's 1991 book Mirror Worlds, the term "digital twin" was coined by Dr. Michael Grieves in 2002. The technology has evolved over time, driven by advancements in IoT, AI, and cloud computing, as well as increased use of simulation and modeling tools in various industries. Cointelegraph's educational article covers the benefits and risks of digital twin technology, how it can be used with blockchain technology, and its use cases in different industries.
🚗 Peer-to-Peer Ridesharing
P2P ridesharing is a cost-effective transportation alternative for those who don't own a car or need to travel long distances. Rather than traditional taxis or personal cars, P2P ridesharing involves private individuals sharing rides with one another using a smartphone app or website.
Through P2P ridesharing, a driver and rider agree to share a ride, with the rider paying a fee that covers the cost of fuel, maintenance, and other expenses. Platforms such as Lyft, Uber, and BlaBlaCar have made P2P ridesharing increasingly popular, as it can reduce traffic congestion and parking requirements while being more affordable and eco-friendly.
Blockchain technology can enhance P2P ridesharing by providing a decentralized ride-hailing platform, secure identity verification, smart-contract-enabled payments, transparent records, and token-based incentives. With a blockchain-based platform, riders and drivers can connect directly without intermediaries. Smart contracts automate payments and eliminate intermediaries, increasing accuracy and speed. Furthermore, blockchain records can be audited and provide an unchangeable record of all transactions.
Tokens can be used to incentivize positive behavior from drivers and riders on a blockchain-based P2P ridesharing platform. For instance, drivers who provide good service may receive tokens that can be exchanged for different perks or benefits.

Thoughts

"IDK about you, but sounds like the #SafeMoonBlockchain is coming along rather nicely. Keep in mind, this is all preliminary stuff. If it doesn't work as proficiently as #SafeMoon needs it to, changes may need to be made. But, it is nice to see progress being shared with us."

⚙️ Ethereum Shapella Upgrade
According to Ethereum core developer Tim Beiko, the upcoming Shapella network upgrade is scheduled for February 28th and will be activated on the Sepolia network at epoch 56832. The Shapella hard fork includes changes to both the execution and consensus layers of the Ethereum network. Shanghai is the name of the hard fork on the execution layer client side, while Capella is the name of the upgrade on the consensus layer client side.
Some of the key Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) included in the Shapella upgrade relate to changes in the execution layer, such as the introduction of warm coinbase, which could reduce network fees for builders. Additionally, the upgrade will enable validator withdrawals from the Beacon Chain to the Ethereum Virtual Machine via a new system-level operation type called "push withdrawals."
Major changes to the consensus layer include full and partial withdrawals for validators and the replacement of the original singular historical roots with independent state and block historical accumulators. Partial withdrawals would allow validators to withdraw Ether rewards in excess of 32 Ether and continue validating, while full withdrawals would enable validators to exit entirely, taking all 32 Ether and rewards.
To take advantage of the Sepolia upgrade, stakers and non-stakers who operate nodes must upgrade their nodes to the most recent Ethereum client versions. After the deployment of the Sepolia upgrade, the next step would be the release of the Shanghai upgrade on the Ethereum Goerli test network in March. [Source: Cointelegraph]
📜 Montana Senate Passes Bill to Protect Bitcoin and Crypto Mining Rights
Montana has taken a step towards supporting the development of crypto-mining infrastructure within its borders. The state senate has passed the "Right to Mine" crypto bill, which aims to protect crypto mining firms from unfair charges. The legislation will amend crypto laws to prevent discriminatory digital asset mining utility rates in Montana. The Satoshi Action Fund and Dennis Porter worked with lawmakers to establish this crucial legislative action, and they are determined to get similar legislation passed in other states. The passing of this bill will create regulatory certainty for the mining industry and clarify tax laws relating to digital assets when used as payment. Montana is open to embracing the digital asset mining industry, and this legislation will plant a flag to that effect. [Source: Watcher Guru]
Food For Thought

"Our character is not defined by the good and easy times. It is defined by the hard and challenging times. [and] Often, our character is not necessarily revealed by what we say, but by what we do."
