Infrastructure Bill’s Crypto Tax Provisions Coming in January 2023
New cryptocurrency tax reporting requirements approved in November 2021 are slated to take effect in the new year, and traders should be prepared, accountants warn.
The Infrastructure and Investment Jobs Act, which was highly debated for its language around cryptocurrency in the months before it was passed, requires all cryptocurrency transactions of $10,000 or greater to be reported. Previously, the requirement only applied to transactions completed in cash.
Lawmakers anticipate collecting an additional $28 billion in tax dollars from this provision alone, according to crypto tax platform Ledgible.
The provision was set to be struck when the bill reached the Senate, but Alabama Republican Sen. Richard Shelby scotched an amendment to the must-pass bill at the last minute.
Just weeks before the act is set to take effect, top House Financial Services Committee Republican Patrick McHenry, R-N.C., penned a letter to the Treasury asked the crypto tax provisions to be delayed.
“As we have previously noted, Section 80603 is poorly drafted. As such, it could be wrongly interpreted as expanding the definition of a ‘broker’ beyond custodial digital asset intermediaries,” Rep. McHenry wrote in the letter. [Source: Blockworks]
Silvergate Faces Class-Action Lawsuit Over FTX and Alameda Dealings
A class-action lawsuit against Silvergate Bank, Silvergate Capital Corporation and Silvergate CEO Alan Lane was filed at the California Southern District Court concerning accounts held by embattled crypto companies FTX and Alameda Research.
The suit aims to hold Silvergate accountable for its alleged roles in placing FTX user deposits into the bank accounts of Alameda, which caused panic within the crypto market, eventually leading to both firms declaring bankruptcy.
The lawsuit was filed by the plaintiff, Joewy Gonzalez, on behalf of himself and others in the same situation. According to the suit, the plaintiff invested his savings in crypto through the FTX exchange as the platform promised investors that they were able to “store assets securely as they gained in value, cash them out or trade them for other assets.” [Source: Cointelegraph]
BNB Becomes Most Active Blockchain in Last 24 Hours Despite Binance FUD
The FUD around Binance has created a lot of fears among investors and pushed the withdrawal volume to an enormous $5 billion. A similar amount of withdrawals would have caused a catastrophe for any other exchange that is not Binance. But there is always an upside: as the FUD emerged, BNB's network activity spiked to unusually high values.
As Coin98Analytics suggests, BNB Chain reported the highest number of daily active users on the blockchain. With 1.1 million users, BNB reached the first place among other networks and easily gained the lead over the second place held by Ethereum with 402,000 users. [Source: U Today]

As part of their evolution, SafeMoon announced their partnership with pNetwork has come to "its natural end" thanking pNetwork for "being an outstanding partner".
Plans are in place to end the pSafeMoon bridge on December 19th at 11AM EST. A dApp will then open to allow for pToken holders to migrate and consolidate their pSFM to SFMV2.
