Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a field of computer science that aims to create machines and automated processes that can perform tasks that normally require human intelligence. Since the recent rise in popularity of ChatGPT, an AI-based natural language processing (NLP) model that uses deep learning algorithms to understand and generate text, the interest in AI technology has increased significantly.
AI has gone through four phases of development, starting in the 1950s. The first phase focused on expert systems, the second on machine learning with neural networks, the third on more sophisticated Machine Learning (ML) techniques, and the fourth on deep learning using multi-layer neural networking. Today AI is utilized in a wide range of applications, including self-driving cars, healthcare personalization, virtual assistants, and smart homes. Recent advancements in Machine Learning (ML) and deep learning have significantly improved AI capabilities.
Types of AI
Artificial Intelligence can be divided into two main types: Narrow AI and General AI.
Narrow AI Also known as Weak AI, Narrow AI is designed for specific tasks and decision-making based on provided data. Examples include virtual assistants (Google, Alexa, Siri), image recognition software (Facebook and Instagram), email filters, and navigation systems (Google Maps).
General AI Also known as Strong AI, General AI can perform intellectual tasks that humans can do, learn from experience, and adapt to new situations. While still a largely theoretical concept, potential examples of General AI in everyday life include personalized medical diagnosis and treatment, customer service chatbots, personal shopping assistants, and autonomous vehicles.
What is Machine Learning (ML)?
Machine Learning (ML) “is a subfield of artificial intelligence (AI) that focuses on developing algorithms and statistical models that allow computer systems to automatically improve their performance on a task without being explicitly programmed.”(Blockchain Council). In other words, through ML, machines acquire the ability to learn from data and utilize that information to make predictions or decisions.
Unsupervised, supervised, and reinforcement learning are all categories within the ML subfield of AI.
Categories of Artificial Intelligence
There are six AI categories: Supervised learning, unsupervised learning, reinforcement learning, deep learning, transfer learning, and cognitive computing.
Supervised learning involves the use of labeled data to train machines to make predictions or decisions. Examples include spam filters and credit scoring models.
Unsupervised learning trains an algorithm on an unlabeled dataset to recognize patterns and structures, such as clustering customer data and identifying fraudulent transactions.
Reinforcement learning is a type of machine learning where an algorithm learns to make decisions that maximize a reward function based on feedback from its environment. Examples include self-driving cars and game-playing AI agents that learn to optimize their strategies based on an opponent's moves.
Deep learning uses deep neural networks, such as image recognition, speech recognition, and natural language processing (NLP) software, to classify data.
— NLP is used in various industrial applications such as language translation, sentiment analysis, text classification, chatbots, and speech recognition. Many techniques are involved in NLP, including parts-of-speech tagging, named entity recognition, language modeling, topic modeling, and more! These techniques enable machines to understand, interpret, and manipulate human language, making it possible to classify text, analyze sentiment, and translate text from one language to another.
Transfer learning reuses pre-trained models on new tasks, such as pre-trained image classification models fine-tuned for specific tasks like identifying skin cancer.
Cognitive computing aims to mimic human cognition and reasoning abilities, such as providing personalized healthcare recommendations and personal shopping assistants.
AI Ethics & AI Bias
In a Blockchain Council article titled What is Artificial Intelligence? A Step-by-Step Beginners Guide, the author discusses AI Ethics and AI Bias. As the science and technology of AI evolve, it is important to consider AI Ethics and AI Bias in all AI technology, including the programming techniques behind them. To achieve this, a framework for AI ethics and bias is needed that includes principles such as fairness, accountability, transparency, and privacy, as well as tools and techniques for detecting and mitigating bias in AI systems.
AI ethics ensures that AI systems are developed and used responsibly and ethically, benefiting individuals and society.
AI bias refers to how AI systems can reflect and reinforce biases in the data and algorithms used to develop them.
The evolution of AI presents challenges such as potential job loss due to automation and concerns about privacy and security. However, the use of AI has the potential to significantly impact society for the better by improving productivity and decision-making processes. In healthcare, AI has the potential to assist in medical diagnosis and personalized treatments, and in transportation, AI could also make travel safer and more efficient. AI is already widely used in various industries and significantly contributes to technological advancement.

SafeMoon has released a new patent pending feature designed to improve the user experience on its DEX (Decentralized Exchange - SafeMoon SWaP), labeling the feature TMI (Token Monetization Innovation).
TMI aims to improve transparency and transaction predictability by charging the exchange fees upfront in the native token and using smart contracts to ensure transparency in token liquidity pairings. It also aims to expand the availability of web3 and enable additional community partnerships with meaningful projects.
