What Are Decentralized Applications (DApps)?
Decentralized applications (DApps) are digital programs or apps that run on blockchains instead of central servers. They offer a variety of services, such as finance and gaming, and are similar to regular mobile apps. DApps are open-source, decentralized, and use cryptographic security to protect data, which is stored on a public, decentralized blockchain maintained by multiple users. They may use cryptocurrency tokens or generate their own native token using a consensus algorithm, such as Proof of Work or Proof of Stake. The token can also be used to reward contributors. The Bitcoin blockchain is an example of a DApp.

And instead of being controlled by just one company, they are run by lots of different computers all working together.

The U.S. Department of Justice is reportedly conducting a criminal investigation into the alleged hack that resulted in the loss of nearly $400 million from FTX-controlled wallets on the night the Bahamas-based exchange filed for bankruptcy. Sam Bankman-Fried and Gary Wang borrowed over $546 million from Alameda to buy a 7.6% stake in Robinhood. Regulators in the Bahamas Are Holding $3.5 Billion in FTX Customer Assets
The Securities Commission of the Bahamas obtained custody of FTX deposits worth more than $3.5 billion on November 12 due to concerns that the assets could be stolen or looted by former employees. The assets will be held until the Bahamas Supreme Court instructs the Commission to release them to customers and creditors.
