US lawmakers Ask DOJ Hold FTX Execs Accountable ‘to the Fullest Extent of the Law’

Two Democratic members of the United States Senate have called on the Justice Department to investigate the collapse of FTX and potentially prosecute individuals involved in wrongdoing.

In a Nov. 23 letter to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland and Assistant Attorney General Kenneth Polite, Senators Elizabeth Warren and Sheldon Whitehouse requested the Justice Department launch an investigation into crypto exchange FTX’s downfall with the “utmost scrutiny.” The lawmakers cited the impact the collapse of a major firm in the crypto space had had on related companies — lending companies including Genesis and BlockFi halting trading — and funds which FTX retail investors may not recover. Japan Plans to Launch Experimental Digital Yen CBDC in 2023

The cryptocurrency realm has been going through a string of events lately. Governments were forced to review laws governing the industry because a significant amount of investors had embraced the market. Other governing bodies were still working to implement the strict laws that some had created, and that stifled innovation. The current cryptocurrency regulations in Japan, on the other hand, are being relaxed in an effort to be more accommodating to the industry.

The Japanese parliament approved a bill earlier in June designating stablecoins as a digital currency. Japan was one of the first major economies to enact a legal framework for stablecoins, so this attracted attention to it. [Source: WatcherGuru]

El Salvador President Says Country Will Buy ‘One Bitcoin Every Day’, Billionaire Justin Sun Joins Him

In a bid to take advantage of the recent crypto meltdown, El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele and Tron Founder Justin Sun plan to buy Bitcoin at a pace of one coin per day starting today.

In a tweet, President Nayib Bukele announced the news, pledging to acquire one BTC per day starting Friday, November 8.

In response, billionaire Justin Sun revealed that he would also join Bukele in acquiring BTC. "We echo Nayib Bukele’s initiative in buying Bitcoin daily. We will also buy one Bitcoin every day starting tomorrow!" [Source: CryptoNews]

Binance Puts Ronaldo NFTs in Spotlight With First-Ever Global Ad Campaign

Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange by volume, has launched a global marketing campaign with Portuguese soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo in honor of his inaugural non-fungible token (NFT) launch.

The NFT collection, named the CR7 NFT Collection, is the first in a series of drops heralding Ronaldo's legacy. The NFTs, which launched exclusively on Binance's NFT marketplace on Friday, feature seven animated figures depicting iconic moments from his career, organized into four rarity levels. The auction for the 45 highest-value NFTs will be available for auction for 24 hours, with bidding prices for the rarest five NFTs starting at 10,000 BUSD. (BUSD is a U.S. dollar-pegged stablecoin.)
